[Mind's Eye] Re: are we as a global society moving forward or backward?

The teachers certainly know it. The management have sold the public
the idea that the meeting of defined objectives makes the teacher
accountable. Indeed it does and perhaps eliminates the occasional
maverick, but at what cost. All teachers teaching the same stuff in a
way which in Ash's words enables the kids to be passed on is, in my
view, a step backward when we look at the talents that many teachers
have and could utilise.

I refer to the change in English education away from developing each
individual to his full potential towards the less demanding idea of
getting ALL to meet minimum standards in chosen disciplines whilst
carrying an imense administrative overhead.

I optimistically believe that the intelligent teachers know and will
one day do something about it.
