Re: Mind's Eye Re: Community

Only say one truly foldable Panama. .  The true test being that you could  roll it up and slide it through one's wedding ring and still hold water.. would love to possess one but it takes a highly skilled and experienced crafts person six (6) months to make one.. sadly they are far beyond my pitiful amount of pocket change.. they are a beautiful hat, one to be admired in craftsmanship.
I was fortunate enough not to have suffered the school uniform thing..  but have heard whispers they are discussing it in the US or should  I  use the proper dutch . . . VS? (Verenigde Staten)

Being somewhat British, I like the Panama hat in hot weather.  One can now get fold-able versions that stuff in your pocket like a old school cap.  One never wore one' s school cap as a hat of course - it was stuffed in the pocket for use as the ball in impromptu games of tuck-and-pass street-rugby.  We have stupid-hat contests at Ascot and Aintree every year, though few men take part.  In cricket, before the new helmets that actually protect heads, we wore particularly stupid caps and floppy hats of no protection at all, using duck and cover against fast bowling.  Sadly, I have no pics, engaging in performance art only.

Here in the South we have to wear hats in the summer if spending a great deal of time outside. Protection from heatstroke and, like your Doc suggested, Melanoma. I remember skiing at Heavenly(ski resort in Nevada/California) in March years ago with no hat and had to rub sunscreen into where my hair parted. Too warm for ski cap and anything with a brim tends to fly off at high speeds.

I recommend a doo-rag. Goes well with fancy earrings.
