--Organization of Bhutanese Communities in America.Press ReleaseJune 16, 2013The Organization of Bhutanese Communities in America (OBCA) successfully convened its 4th National Convention in Denver, CO from June 14 - 16, 2013.The Convention successfully elected a 29 member new Board of Directors and various office bearers of the OBCA. Mr. Hari Bangaley has been elected the new Chairman of the OBCA by a consensus and Mr. Hari Upreti has been elected Vice-Chairman. Similarly, Mr. Hari Dhakal has been elected Secretary and Mr. Aita Raj Rai has been elected to the post of the Treasurer of the OBCA. The OBCA conducts its elections every two years. The former Chairman of the OBCA Mr. DJ Khaling did not contest the election this time.The Convention was jointly organized by the OBCA and Global Bhutanese Community of Colorado, (GBCC), which organized a picnic for the entire participants.Following its tradition of honoring one distinguished person from the Bhutanese community every year, the 4th National Convention of the OBCA has honored an eminent singer Mr. Pratap Subba with a Certificate of Recognition and an honor token of $ 501.00 (five hundred and one dollar).The events of the Convention included among other things: a session on Mental Health and Suicide among the Bhutanese communities in the USA presented by Mr. Parangkush Subedi, PA, Business and Entrepreneurship by Mr. Dilip Dahal, GA, Mr. Robert Barragan from Ohio and Mr. Hector from Morganton, North Carolina. In the same manner, a documentary was presented on behalf of the Punya Foundation featuring its activities by Mr. Yug Dabadi, WA. During the convention, a two hour unofficial session on Non-Resident Bhutanese (NRB) was held for the interested participants facilitated by Mr. RP Subba and Mr. Mohan Tamang where nearly 60 individuals participated in this session.Besides these, the GBCC organized the World Refugee Day celebration and in this session, the GBCC appreciated and honored local community volunteers with Certificates and Khada for their invaluable volunteer services in the community. On the occasion, the GBCC welcomed with khada representatives from VOLAGS and other refugee stakeholders involved in supporting the refugee community in Colorado and thanked them for continued assistance to the refugee communities.Delegates from more than 28 states participated in the Convention. The programs went smoothly as scheduled. Cultural troupes from various states presented cultural programs including dance and songs.The outgoing Chairman Mr. Khaling congratulated and thanked the new leadership. He wished them all a successful tenure.The leadership of the OBCA heartily thanks the local organization committee of Colorado, volunteers and supporters in making this program a great success.Considering the need and demand of the hour to be inclusive and vibrant organizational functionaries, the brief meet of the newly constituted Board, proposed the Chairman and the Board of Directors to expand and resuffle the working team as deem necessary.
