Third National Convention
The Organization of Bhutanese Communities in America (OBCA) has decided to hold its third National Convention in Phoenix, Arizona from June 15 through June 17, 2012. The Community members from around the states are participating in this third historic community congregation after the resettlement began in 2008.
Major highlights of the convention programs are as the day first will be marked by the arrival and registration of the participants with dinner arranged by the Bhutanese Community of Arizona (BCA). Day second events consist of the convention opening session, views and community reports from states representatives, organizational annual report and discussion on projects (Bhutan Magazine and Movie Suruwat): budget, review and recommendations.
Unlike the past conventions, this year's convention will bring in different group sessions for discussion and resolution such as community empowerment, youth and sports, music, literature, role of community media in the diaspora and the role of senior community members toward community strengthening and self-reliance will be conducted on the second day. Bhutan Media Society(BMS), Literature Council of Bhutan, Global Bhutanese Literature Organization, Bhutanese Artists in America, Inter-State Bhutanese Soccer Tournament Organizing Committee and a group of senior community members are going to facilitate and host these sessions. The Bhutanese intellectual Mr. RP Subba, in the capacity of key note speaker of the convention, will present a paper on the Bhutanese Community: its empowerment through entrepreneurship and financial literacy. After the sessions are over, the participants will head out for site visit and picnic. The day second night will be dedicated for the grand Premier Show of the Movie 'Suruwat' produced by the organization.
The Bhutanese Community of Arizona (BCA) and the Bhutanese Art and Culture Center (BACC), GA comprising artists from different states will host cultural program on the third day in an effort towards preserving and promoting community art, culture and tradition. Day third will also be dedicated for conferring OBCA Annual Award to one of the community individuals or organizations for rendering outstanding services in the Bhutanese diaspora and honoring community artists and volunteers will be followed by the convention closing session.
On this auspicious occasion, the 3rd National Convention Organizing Committee, State Program Organizing Committee and the organization express joint greetings to all the Bhutanese living in America for their continued progress and livelihood and extend a warm welcome to every one to this annual community event in Arizona.
