I agree in principle, andrew, but respect is such a specious beast to nail down. Many consider challenging an idea disrespectful. I've found it very hard to be consistently perceived as generally respectful.

I find it disrespectful to the poster to derail the topic they have started.
Respect also ties in with indifference in that if someone is reaching out for your concern, and that request is denied or ignored, then that shows disrespect. . .
