Most shows tend to aim for a particular demographic. The Unit appears to be aimed at both an adult male who has or is serving in the military and stay at home moms who need to feel empowered by a strong female character.
My point is that most soccer moms probably don't care about the technical details of escaping from a Bosnian prison and most adult males don't really care about the results of Tiff's pregnancy test. IMO the writers should have picked a single demographic as their primary focus.
